Candle Care Guide
To get the best scent, burn time, and safety from your HABIT Plants candle, please follow these care instructions:
First Burn
Allow the candle to burn until the wax melts across the entire surface (approximately 4 hours, depending on size). This creates an even "memory ring" and helps prevent tunnelling in future burns.
Lighting Your Wood Wick
Wood wicks can take slightly longer to light than cotton wicks. Hold the flame to the wick for a few seconds until it catches evenly along its length. Once lit, you'll notice a gentle, soft crackle - this is completely normal and part of the wood wick experience.
Burn Time
Burn for no more than 3–4 hours at a time. Burning for longer periods can cause the wick to mushroom and affect the quality of future burns.
Trimming Between Burns
Always trim the wick to 5mm and remove any debris from the wax pool before relighting. This keeps the flame steady and prevents excess smoke or soot. You can usually knock the top, brittle section off with your finger.
Safety
Never leave a burning candle unattended
Keep away from children, pets, drafts, and flammable materials
Burn on a heat-resistant, stable surface - the lids your candles come with are perfect!
Do not extinguish the flame by placing the lid on the candle. Blow out gently or use a snuffer instead. For a smoother reset to the melted wax, do not replace the lid until the wax has cooled and hardened.
Stop use once approximately 1cm of wax remains, to protect the container and surface below
Keep the wax pool free of matches, wick trimmings, or debris
Storage
Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve fragrance and prevent the wax from softening or discolouring.
A Final Note
Coconut soy wax and wood wicks are natural products, so slight variations in burn, scent throw, and crackle are normal from candle to candle. This is part of what makes each one unique.
