Terrarium Care Guide

Congratulations on your new HABIT Terrarium. Each of our terrariums are carefully made with ease of care and longevity in mind, so that you can enjoy your new miniature slice of beauty for years to come.

We use an aquarium substrate instead of traditional terrarium organic substrate. The substrate we select slowly releases microminerals to the plants in order to keep them vibrant and healthy. Given that this media is sterile and does not biodegrade, it does not allow pests like gnats to breed like youll find often in other terrariums. Additionally, this substrate cannot be overwatered or become pungent like traditional terrarium substrates can. You haye a hydroponic terrarium!

We have also opted for artificial moss, rather than real moss. Don't get us wrong, we love moss, but in order to keep terrarium moss looking good, it requires the correct lighting, airflow, temperature and regular maintenance. That's not the ease of care we want for you; that’s a golf course. Instead, we use a recycled microfiber yarn in 2 different tones of green that we then spend hours chopping and blending by hand to create a more natural appearance. There were many frogs kissed in order to find this combination.

Our plant selections are made to ensure they won't outgrow their glass enclosures, or that their size can easily be controlled through selective pruning. If you find that you're unsure of if you can trim any of the plants, please feel free to reach out with photos via email or Instagram and we'll be happy to advise you.

The ideal location for your terrarium is out of direct sunlight in a comfortably warm spot. You could even place it under a normal LED globe to highlight the view and provide enough light for your plants to thrive. Mist liberally when you notice that the substrate or moss is starting to dry. We highly recommend using demineralised water, as this does not go stagnant in storage and doesn’t leave water stains on the glass of your vessel.

We hope you love getting lost in these little worlds as much as we do.
